Kybella
Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental (chin) fullness, sometimes referred to as a ‘double chin’.
Submental fullness can occur in both men and women and is often caused by genetics, weight gain, and aging.
The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body which aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, it causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those fat cells cannot store or accumulate fat.
The treatment takes 15 to 20 minutes in our tranquil office.

Kybella FAQs
How many Kybella treatments will I need?
The number of treatments recommended will differ from one patient to the next, but as a general rule of thumb about 2-3 treatments should effectively address your double chin. These treatments are usually spaced out about 6 weeks apart. Some patients might require only one session depending on the amount of fat cells to be eliminated.
How long do the results last?
After a full treatment protocol (3-6 treatments as mentioned above) you will likely not need additional injections. Although Kybella doesn’t remove every fat cell, it does drastically reduce the amount in the treated area and the cells do not return.
Will I be in pain after Kybella injections?
Right after the injections are administered some patients will experience a little discomfort for about 15 minutes. There might be some tenderness or numbness in the area. Kybella does cause swelling, which is actually a way to tell that it’s working, and this can lead to skin tightening as well as fat reduction. This swelling will subside in about a week.
How does Kybella differ from liposuction?
The main difference between Kybella and liposuction is that the latter is a surgical procedure. As such it is less invasive, and many people prefer to avoid surgery if possible. Liposuction is usually a one-time procedure and Kybella requires multiple treatments. Also, Kybella is mainly used to treat submental fat, known as double chin. Liposuction can be used on other areas of the body.
Does the treatment take a long time?
The entire process takes about thirty minutes including time to numb the area being treated with ice. The Kybella injection portion only takes about five minutes and typically causes little to no discomfort.
