At the first consultation, Dr DeJuliis undertakes an in-depth review of each patient’s eating habits so that she can design an individualized easy-to-follow plan, which can include dietary advice as well as information about semaglutide, the active ingredient in popular weight-loss medications. Any necessary bloodwork is carried out in the office by the medical assistant.

All treatment plans are non-surgical and non-invasive. Patients can see results in as little as two weeks.

Weight-loss Medication

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in the most popular weight loss medications available today. At The Aurora DeJuliis, MD European Medical Spa in Montclair, New Jersey, Dr. DeJullis first undertakes a medical evaluation and blood work before prescribing Wegovy®, Ozempic®, and Mounjaro® to patients interested in using medications to achieve their weight loss goals.

Wegovy

As an injectable prescription medication, Wegovy is currently the only FDA-approved medication for weight loss. When used with a reduced-calorie meal plan and a steady routine of physical activity, adults taking Wegovy can achieve up to 15% weight loss.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Wegovy?

The ideal candidates for Wegovy are adults with a BMI ≥30 or a BMI of at least 27 if they also have weight-related medical problems such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Patients who have a family or personal history of thyroid cancer or those who have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndrome Type 2 (MEN 2) will not be suitable candidates for Wegovy as they may have severe complications or reactions to the semaglutide in the medication.

What Are the Health Benefits of Taking Wegovy?

In addition to helping the average patient lose up to 25 to 35 pounds, patients taking Wegovy have also experienced improvements in their symptoms related to other health conditions such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Wegovy may also help balance blood sugar, as well as increase the resting heart rate.

How Should Wegovy Be Taken?

Wegovy can be taken at any time of the day, but it should be taken on the same day every week. As a once-weekly injection, Wegovy can be taken with or without food. Depending on a patient’s weight loss goals, the dosage may vary.

Ozempic

As another weekly semaglutide injection, Ozempic is designed to help lower the body’s blood sugar and A1C. Approved by the FDA, Ozempic helps the pancreas make and release more insulin as the blood sugar rises, making it an effective medication option for managing type 2 diabetes or weight problems related to diabetes.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Ozempic?

Adults with type 2 diabetes will benefit from Ozempic as it works to lower blood sugar. Adults with a BMI of 30 or higher may also qualify for the medication as a weight loss aid treatment. If you have a history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN 2, or are allergic to semaglutide, you may not be suitable for this medication.

What Are the Health Benefits of Taking Ozempic?

While Ozempic is used primarily to lower blood sugar and A1C in diabetes patients, it has also been proven to lower the risk of cardiovascular conditions such as stroke, heart attack, or heart disease.

How Should Ozempic Be Taken?

Ozempic should be taken once a week, with or without food. This medication should be used as a supplement to a balanced diet and routine exercise in order to achieve optimal weight loss results.

Mounjaro

Mounjaro is an injectable prescription medication that is also used for treating type 2 diabetes and weight loss. With a primary focus on lowering A1C in adults, Mounjaro regulates the blood sugar to decrease how much food a patient eats and slows down how quickly food leaves the stomach.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Mounjaro?

Ideal candidates for Mounjaro are patients who have type 2 diabetes or are overweight with a BMI of at least 27. Patients who have type 1 diabetes or pancreatitis may not be suitable for this treatment.

What Are the Health Benefits of Taking Mounjaro?

Taking Mounjaro can improve the body’s glycemic control, lead to weight loss, and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease. By working to decrease appetite and food intake, patients can lose up to an average of 25 pounds on Mounjaro.

How Should Mounjaro Be Taken?

Injected once a week, Mounjaro can be taken at any time on the same day each week. Mounjaro can be taken with or without food. However, patients should avoid foods high in sugar as it can prevent patients from achieving their weight loss goals.

Are There Any Side Effects with Weight Loss Medications?

Like any other medication, Wegovy, Ozempic, and Mounjaro can result in side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, stomach aches, headaches, fatigue, bloating, belching, heartburn, sore throat, or runny nose. However, under the care of Dr. DeJuliis, patients can expect helpful and effective recommendations when it comes to managing their side effects.
